HOWARD J. GOURWITZ received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969 from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctor law degree cum laude in 1972 from Wayne State University. Howard also received a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University in 1973 and has specialized in the practice of personal and business tax law, estate and financial planning, commercial planning, real estate and sports and entertainment law. He is listed in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory (an international listing of lawyers) with the highest "av" rating for legal ability and ethical standards. Since 1980, he has been a practice consultant for the Midwest
Transaction Guide, a fourteen volume set of books published by Matthew Bender & Company Incorporated. Howard has authored many articles and also is a frequent lecturer, having participated in many Institute of Continuing Legal Education seminars. He is also a frequent guest lecturer at Wayne State University Law School on the topic of "Conducting Effective Negotiations." For many years, he was a member of the Board of Directors of TLCVision Corporation, a leading laser vision correction company, which is publicly-traded on NASDAQ. He is a Registered Agent with the National Hockey League Players' Association and a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, and has represented professional athletes since 1986. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Michigan Band Alumni Association, The Elbel Club...The Friends of the Michigan Marching Band, the Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan University, a member of the Board of Governors of the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation and a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. He is also Past-President of both the University of Michigan Band Alumni Association and the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation.
