HOWARD J. GOURWITZ received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969 from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctor law degree cum laude in 1972 from Wayne State University. Howard also received a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University in 1973 and has specialized in the practice of personal and business tax law, estate and financial planning, commercial planning, real estate and sports and entertainment law. He is listed in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory (an international listing of lawyers) with the highest "av" rating for legal ability and ethical standards. Since 1980, he has been a practice consultant for the Midwest Transaction Guide, a fourteen volume set of books published by Matthew Bender & Company Incorporated. Howard has authored many articles and also is a frequent lecturer, having participated in many Institute of Continuing Legal Education seminars. He is also a frequent guest lecturer at Wayne State University Law School on the topic of "Conducting Effective Negotiations." For many years, he was a member of the Board of Directors of TLCVision Corporation, a leading laser vision correction company, which is publicly-traded on NASDAQ. He is a Registered Agent with the National Hockey League Players' Association and a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, and has represented professional athletes since 1986. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Michigan Band Alumni Association, The Elbel Club...The Friends of the Michigan Marching Band, the Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan University, a member of the Board of Governors of the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation and a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. He is also Past-President of both the University of Michigan Band Alumni Association and the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation.
BENSON J. BARR received his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University in 1972. He has also received the designation of Certified Financial Planner in 1988 and the designation of Accredited Estate Planner from the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils in 2014. Benson specializes in the practice of estate and financial planning, real estate and business law and planning. He is also listed in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory with the highest "av" rating for legal ability and ethical standards. He is a practice consultant for the Midwest Transaction Guide, a fourteen volume set of books published by Matthew Bender & Company Incorporated. Benson has authored several law journal articles and participates as a lecturer at various professional seminars including for The Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the National Business Institute. He has taught the estate planning course at Oakland University in its personal financial planning program. He is a past member of the Technology Advisory Board of the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education, as well as a former member of the Commercial Arbitrator Panel of the American Arbitration Association. He is the Immediate Past President of the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Metro Detroit. He is also a past-President of the International Association for Financial Planning, Southeast Michigan Chapter (now known as the Financial Planning Association), a past-Vice President of JET (Jewish Ensemble Theatre) located in West Bloomfield, Michigan, a past-President of the Myasthenia Gravis Association (a United Fund Agency) and a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.
