Michigan Eliminates the Need for Witnesses on Deeds

A series of new laws that became effective on March 4, 2002, eliminated the requirement that certain real estate documents, such as deeds, land contracts and the proprietor's certificate on a plat be witnessed by two persons. However, such documents must still be acknowledged before any judge, clerk of a court of record, or notary public in the state. See 2002 PA 19, 20, 21 and 23.
